WATERCOOLER: Should Libraries restrict R rated movie rentals to kids?

Wisconsin State legislator Tom Reynolds (R-West Allis) has proposed a bill that would require parental approval for library patrons under 17 to check out R rated movies or DVDs. Currently many libraries, including our own here in Evansville, have no such restriction. The proposed law would override the authority of the local library boards to set such policies.

What do you think of this proposed law? You make the call.

No, I do not think children under the age of 16 should be able to go to the libraries and rent R rated movies. If they can't do it anywhere else why would a LIBRARY have no rule about that. I wouldn't want my 8 year old to come home with some movie I do not aprove of him watching.

Then again, why would an 8 year old be unsupervised at the library to begin with....
