Developing Story: Drive ups for Booze Yes: Drive ups for Pharmacy No
The Observer is on the prowl to determine whether in fact Evansville is the only city in America that has a drive up for booze but has disallowed a drive up for pharmacy pick up. Last night, I was so frustrated trying to get a parking place at our beloved pharmacy, that I, well, was almost driven to the drive up for a quick six pack. Stay tuned to see whether Evansville can claim national attention for our unique priorities.

Yeah... sometimes you just have to vent. In the meantime, I'm on the prowl to determine whether or not the word determine is spelled "detrmine".

ReplyDeleteAside from the fact that it looks stupid, cars park all over the place, you have traffic moving in all directions at anytime. Are you so lazy you cant walk five feet for your Old #7? If no one uses it then hopefully they will close it.
My observation is that people use the parking lot to assemble thier coolers with ice and beer before thier trip.
It probably would have been a better idea to have created an area for people with boats and trailers to park and pack.

ReplyDeleteWhy has there not been a mention of how horribly, tragically, pathetic the E-ville fireworks performance was?
We are talking bad, horrible. It was if whoever was setting them off was on heroin, and was nodding off between fuses. One would go off, then nothing for two minutes. Then a small one. Then one going off inches from the ground. Another. Then nothing. No grand finale, no nothing. Everyone just kind of sat around and sadly started filtering out of the park.
And what kind of parking nonsense- they should ban parking around the lake during fireworks. Not only is this bad for the grass and the lake, but i saw several toddlers and families almost get flattened by inebriated people leaving and backing up into the crowds. Honestly- what idiot thought it would be Ok to park next to a swingset on the sand lot?
Do you know they have a delivery service?
ReplyDeleteI've never had parking issues downtown. Ever.
Regardless, I'd rather park four blocks away and walk to the Grange building than have a Squallmart with a driveup window.

ReplyDeleteThat is exactly why we spend our Fourth anywhere else.
Last year was the last straw, they did not even start until almost 10pm.
They had to wait for the softball game???
All be it the lights on the diamond were more interesting, it was profoundly iritating to sit there and wait for the miss fires the ground fires the duds.
Evansville Pharmacy is the worst. They are slow, they don't take some major insurances, and I have had parking issues downtown, not just for the pharmacy though.
ReplyDeleteAt Walgreens I am in and out in 10 minutes tops, never had a parking issue, never ever had any insurance problem.
You have to wonder if the drive thru for the liquor store was not approved so quickly because guess who? sits on the the committee that voted it in? They should have at least told them it had to look nice. NOW if the pharmacy had moved to the east side of town instead of taking the 100.g from the city for moving into the grange mall and staying in the down town area, they probably would have had no problem getting their drive thru put in with their new building plans. They got what they deserve, nothing.
ReplyDeleteI had a very sick child last week and instead of messing around in Madison, I had my Dr. call in the prescription to the pharmacy here in town. I came all the way from madison thinking pick up the meds go home. Well of course not got to the pharmacy just to be told they did not have the med. that was prescribed. Worthless is what they are, bring on Walgreen's. I will not waste my time with them again.
ReplyDeleteI have heard that Oregon is going to get a Walgreens in. That would be easier to deal with than Madison.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with pharmacy here in town is there attitude is they are doing everyone a favor by being there. PLEASE!!! Crappy service, attitude to boot, very expensive!!! and slow.. You can have it called in and still go and wait for 20 minutes. I think we should contact Walgreen's H.Q., about locating a store here.

A comment about the fireworks to anony, there are sad. We invited friends here for the weekend and were embarrassed by our ' fireworks'. Our friends were like you are kidding right? If they put as much effort into the fireworks as the beer tent, they might have something. I also want to mention that I don't think KIDS should be allowed in the beer tent regardless is there parents are there or not. What kind of message are these parents sending to their kids..
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that we went somewhere else last year finally for the fireworks and thought we would give them a chance this year and once again very dissapointed. Even little old Footville and Orferdville have a better display! They need to find a way to make things quicker. Evansville has NOTHING for the fourth. No rides no kid stuff nothing worth seeing. Just Beer and softball. It would be nice to see some rides, car shows, some types of games, tractor or truck pulls, tug a war. SOMETHING. We have nothing in this town becuase everything is always booed out. Yet people complain about kids being up town and doing bad things. Maybe if there was stuff for them to do they wouldn't get into so much trouble.

The issue with the drive-through window for the pharmacy is that the pharmacy is located in the central business district (B-2), where, under the current city zoning code, you cannot get even a conditional use permit for a drive-through window, unless your business is a financial institution. In contrast, Ringhand Meats & Liquor is located in the B-3 zoning district, where you can get a conditional use permit for a drive-through window (also available as a conditional use in the I-1 zoning district). A drive-through window for a gas station/convenience store/food counter (like Citgo/Subway or BP/McDonalds) is a conditional use in the B-3, B-4 and I-1 zoning districts. The different treatment is dictated by the different zoning of the different locations.

for a small community Evansvile does a fine job with the 4th and the fireworks. IF YOU don't like how it is done. GET INVOLVED. There is nothing more disgusting than people who sit around and complain about the volunteers that are out there doing the best they can. That's right the 4th is put onby all volunteers, anyone can get involved.

ReplyDeleteAs far as fireworks being staffed by volunteers- uh, no. Not quite. There's a few permits and a bit of pyrotechnic knowledge required for that bit.
we also were involved last year, and I made it a point to make purchases from the vendors so they would come back this year.
ReplyDeleteAfter waiting until 10pm for the fireworks I made it a point his year to go somewhere else this year.
When there is so much more being done so much better, so close to our town I have no desire to volunteer. I do volunteer for a couple different things here in town, things that are taken seriously and done right. I think you need to spend less time telling people to quit complaining and more time taking your volunteer work seriously. These are leg. complaints and if Evansville is going to continue to have a 4th of July display, they need to look into doing more for young family's, get rid of the beer tent, there are enough bars in town, get back to good old fashioned family fun. If they continue to run it as is, more and more people are going to continue to leave town for the festivities.
