Evansville School District Faces Cuts; Resignation of Mary Koehl, Coordinator

Danielle reports from the Janesville Gazette that the Evansville School District is expecting budget cuts of about $200,00 in each of the upcoming budget years. In addition, Mary Koehl, district curriculum coordinator has resigned to take a principal position at Hartford Union High School.

Cuts were proposed in elimating K-4 at-risk services and in assigning the duties for at-risk services for 5th-12th graders to another position. Raises were proposed for administrators who are taking over Koehl's duties.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to The Evansville Observer for upcoming details.

excuse me ' raises were proprosed for those taking over Koehl's duties.' PLEASE, its about time these administrators start doing more with less. It makes me sick t think they would get pay raises when at the same time they are looking at cutting programs that are very much needed. WHERE DID THEY GO TO SCHOOL?, HOW CAN YOU GO ABOUT TEACHING STUDENTS TO DESIGN AND STICK WITH BUDGETS WHEN THE EVANSVILLE SCHOOL DISTRCIT CAN'T. THIS ADMINISTRATION HAS BEEN AWFUL EVER SINCE HEIDI CARVIN TOOK THE THE HELM.

Regardless of lack of state funds this school district has been very careless in what they have/have not done in terms of there budget, and now Heidi Carvin think they should get a 5,000+ raise for doing more. Sorry HEIDI, suck it up like the rest of us, and do more for less. IT's insulting to think we would give any raises but yet cut programs for the kids.
I think there should be no more raises until there budget issues are settled.

Anyone else notice the Evansville School district has history of wanting more and doing less, and less at the expense of our students.

program cuts in one sentance, pay raise in the next? Anyone else see something terribly wrong with this ? They had better not come and ask for any more money in the next 20 years if they continue to run things the way they have the last six.

  6. In the long run, it is the At-Risk Students who suffer the most in this situation. The students least likely of speaking for themselves( the K-4 students)are left with no responsible adult to provide a voice for them. How the school district can believe that one person can be responsible for at- risk students grades 5-12 in 3 buildings, as a part-time job is questionable!! Does the public understand the number of students involved and this decision's affect on the poor children of this community.

her salary range is over 85,000., not including benefits, her total pkg is around 115,000. This is for the district admin. It may be more at this point and time. She makes enough money that she should be able to suck up some extra work with charging us tax payers for it.
