The Janesville Gazette is currently running an editorial asserting that the recent budget vetoes of Gov. Doyle, while making educators happy, was overstepping his authority, and furthermore has endangered 500,000 Wisconsin citizens who are in need of medical care.
Did Gov. Doyle go to far? Was he just following the example of Tommy Thompson? Did they both go too far? Would an override be appropriate?

Raiding Medicaid was a bad move for those of us that have aging parents. The cost will be made up on the private paying side which wil make nursing home care more expensive than it already is. It will probably become outside the pocket book of most of us.

Why didn't he just send the proposed budget back?
The republican party is contemplating a lawsuit since thier interpetation is that the gov. violated state law.
Doyle only preserved a small portion of the tax freeze, and did so only to win votes. In reality the tax freeze will mean pennies to us. Our own municipalty had the forethought to borrow as much as possible knowing the amount they borrow now would be exempt.
So folks we will still see the increase yet again this year.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul is just wrong. Try doing it with your household budget and see where it gets you.
If there is any business in this country that is top heavy with administrators, and ceo's etc it is the medical field. Let them start eliminating some of these positions and they will find lots of money. I congrats to Doyle for doing the right thing.
ReplyDeleteI sooo agree with Mrs. Steinlein. The cost of medical care and who gets it is going to be a real big issue. I have news for Rachel - people who truley need the health care already do not always get it. I think those of you out there who know what I am talking about can weigh in on that one.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Gov did what he did because the budget has become a campaign tool, not a real budget.
Every county in this country has requirements for receiving services. Even those who are right on the border of being eligable, if they are not eligable for one there are several others they can apply for. If they don't qualify, there is a reason for that. Some people simply don't qualify because they have abused the system so often , and for so long.

I would rather pay for my parents medical care than someone else's.
I beleive that 139 veto's is excessive, who is trying to scare who?
ReplyDeleteDon't think for a minute that Doyle won't use the 139 veto's in his campaign. He will shout it from the roof tops until we are sick of hearing it.
But what is more interesting is that no one has mentioned or even cares if the budget was balanced.
So long as each indiviual agenda/preference was met then who cares?

Where is our health care in not just our state, but our country. I think you should call President Bush and ask him. Quit acting as though the state is going to fall apart, the republicans did not get their way and they just want to squak. Honestly there are alot of programs out there, even with out these programs any hosp, or clinic that accepts medicade or ma, or any other gov. program CANNOT REFUSE service based on someone's inability to pay. I work at St. Marys and I can tell you right now we have a program that if people are truley low income, or worse homeless we have a program where we absorb the cost, as long as they can prove they are, and follow through with the paperwork. But there are so many programs alot of people don't realize. If you don't qualify for Badgercare, which by the way you can make a fair amount of money and qualify, there is a program for people who qualify where the county picks up what there ins. does not. There are well child, and shot clinics all the time. There is also a program for dental care. If children are not getting proper care sometimes it is just simply the fault of the parents, many low income, poor have issues of their own, and are more wrapped up in their own problems than there kids. Sound brutal, its reality we see it all the time. Sometimes these kids end up in the care of the county and then health care is never a issue, sometimes we never see them again. It is very important to educate these people and hopefully avoid the problem all together. Like I started with give a call to Bush, say enough is enough , we want health care for everyone.

ReplyDeleteThe admin at Evansville should talk to Bellville school since they had a surplus of 30,000 dollars at the end of the school year.
