Evansville Has a Full Plate

At last month's Evansville School Board Meeting, Chris Eager made a presentation about where the task force on the Senior Center was at.

He paused in the presentation and reflected that we in Evansville have a lot going on. ...."The Senior Center....then others chimed in...The New Library....The Fire Station.....the new paving brick project....The New Economy Story....and a review of the School...The new Public Works garage.....The new City Hall roof....."

Then there was a moment of silence.

Then Chris went on...."And...The resources are not unlimited."

Then another moment of silence.

It is pretty stunning to realize how expansive the dreams of our city are. After the garage sale on Saturday, it will begin. The intersection at Madison and Main will be worked on.

I have read the history of Mrs. Montgomery of Evansville. I wonder if at any time in its history this city has had as many projects on the table at once.

I remember running a marathon once and I asked a fellow runner where the 5 mile marker was. He replied: "If you're looking at the markers now, you won't finish the race. It's a long race." He was right. 20 miles was it for me.

My point is: This is going to be a long race. Let's stay loose. Work together. And yes, when it has passed, maybe if the heat index is lower, we can party on. Maybe the Blooze Brothers can come again with all three of the female parole officers this time. And they can sing "Soul Man" one more time. It's just too hot for "Soul Man" right now. It will be best in cooler weather.
