Gazette Corner: Brodhead allows billboard advertising in football stadium. Will Evansville follow?

Click on the post for the article in the Janesville Gazette by Gina Duwe. What do you think? Should Evansville follow this example?

  1. As much as I don't like sign pollution, this really doesn't bother me.

I don't think the ads are really intended to promote a business so much as they show the business' support for the sport program. Not too many local businesses are going to think they will make back the cost through new sales generated by the signage -- rather they are building their local reputation as a booster.

Only thing I would do different than Brodhead is to auction off the sign space. Start with a floor of $100 and let businesses bid for the space - don't sell the visibility short. Worst thing a Brodhead School District Board member is going to hear is when Bank of Brodhead says they would have gladly paid $500 for the space.
