At the Principal's meeting this morn at City Hall, the City, it's engineers, the contractors and involved city departments met to discuss the plan for the Madison, Main Street intersection renovation. It will all begin on Sept 4th with the barricades. Actual work will begin on Sept 7th.
The "thru traffic" will be routed Hwy 14, to Exchange St, to Water Street.
"Local" traffic, where that is defined as a car with a destination in the construction zone, will continue as today. Thus, that "local" car could be a person who is from out of town, who decides to go to a coffee shop or pharmacy downtown. There will be access to businesses at all times.
As in the previous Hwy 14 project, the resident engineer will be Tom Pfefferkorn, who will be distributing a flyer to residents updating them on progress and things to watch for.
The hours of operation for construction will be 7am to 3:30PM ++. The major point is that it will not begin before 7am. There will be no nightime construction. This was discussed and ruled out as not desirable.
During the Construction season--which should be substantially done by November 3rd----The Observer will be standing by, in the event of any press release from the city and will promptly post any notices for Observer readers.
Stay Tuned.
