The Honor of Your Attendence is Requested........TONIGHT

The Honor of Your attendence is requested at the meeting of the Evansville Common Council TONIGHT Tuesday, August 8th, 6:30PM at City Hall as it holds an open public hearing on the question of whether to amend the Smart Growth Plan adopted on June 15, 2005 and move property targeted for development ten years from now to the intermediate land use plan and thus to be annexed at developer request.

This plan amendment is not an academic matter. It will create the potential to accelerate growth from the targeted 27% that was the identified by the Evansville Community Survey done in 2004, and which reflects the will of 95% of the citizens of Evansville. This figure of 95% is also the amount of folks voting against the plan amendment on the Evansville Observer web site.

Any acceleration of the growth rate has the danger of adding significantly to the property tax burden of Evansville residents. Much of the school debt issued to finance the school improvements of 2002 is "back loaded" debt, meaning that it will increase over time. It will really increase over time if we accelerate our growth since we would incur new debt in building new schools to meet the student demand created by new construction.

Evansville citizens voted in the community survey. They have voted on the Observer survey. Now YOU need to vote by your feet---by physically being present at the Common Council meeting on Tuesday, August 8th, 6:30PM and say that magic word -------NO. Insist that that our public servants be just that. Insist that our common council members actually represent the citizens.

Be there.
