My suspicions were completely correct in regard to the "magic number" of 27%. This was completely an arbitary number that was based on how people felt as far as future growth compared to past growth (in other words, keep it the same or less). It has no basis in the reality of how it will impact the city or what would be an optimal growth rate.

I was told by a local developer at a "town hall" meeting that Mayor Ringhand held a year ago, that the schools needed this type of growth to pay off the the school bonds because they are "backloaded." I have voiced my opinion on this subject many times, because I feel that too much growth will cause the need for new school facilities before the bonds that built the high school are paid in full. Michael Pierick confirmed that suspicion last evening stating that it is expected that we will need new facilities 6 years prior to paying off those bonds.

Thank you to all of the council members for listening to the will of the community. In my opinion, if any amendment is necessary, it would be one to slow growth, not accelerate it. However, I think we are pretty well tied to the 27% growth rate with the agreements that are in place.
