School Achievement Gap Growing

If you click on the post you will see an article published on Tuesday in the Milwaukee Journal that asserts that the gap of achievement in schools is widening between rich and poor and gets down to sociology and not just funding per student. It seems that asset levels of the student family have a major corrolation with student academic success.

The article quotes specific asset levels. A family with assets of $700,000 does better than one with $100,000. It would seem from the article, sponsored by a conservative think tank, that the remedy would be to transfer massive amounts of cash to those homeowners who are a bit short. Just kidding. That does seem to be what the first part of the article would suggest however.

In the last paragraph, the writer still recommends higher state funding per student and having more kids attend college. Even if one likes the last paragraph, it seems to come as a surprise after reading the first sections.

What do you think? You make the call.
