It was simply remarkable. Standing room only at the Evansville Country Club on a frigid Wednesday evening as hundreds of Union residents heard fellow Union residents describe sections of the Union Smart Growth Draft Plan. A very high percentage of families of Union were represented at the meeting. Clearly the plan of public participation envisioned by the Smart Growth Team chair Doug Zweisig was a resounding success.
The difficult issues of conflicting land use are ahead. The difficult issues on structure of the decision making are ahead. But---with the huge participation of the residents of Union, these decisions will be easier than if only a few had been involved.
Copies of the Union Smart Growth Plan are available to read at the Eager Free Public Library. It is important reading for all Evansville residents also.
The Observer will attempt to keep you posted on this developing process. But for now, congratulations on a wonderful beginning.
