Big Box Stores may use WTO to destroy local land use regulations

John Nichols of the Wisconsin State Journal has an interesting article that describes the threat of big box retail chains using pending WTO regulations that will destroy local land use restrictions. Cities such as Evansville could be vulnerable if they are unable to implement any land use restrictions.

  1. Whatever happened to Republicans being for states rights? Did that all go out the window when the Supreme court elected Bush to his first term?

from the Nichols article, "rather than paring back our commitments under the GATS to protect state sovereignty and the right to regulate as a local governing entity, the Bush administration is hoping for an agreement in Hong Kong that would deliver a vast expansion of the GATS, including into areas largely regulated by states."

This administration really doesn't stand for anything they claim to, all they consider are themselves and themselves and their cronies!

    Clear skies=more pollution,
compassionate conservatism= unnecessary wars, cutting social programs,privatization/profiteeringof government.

    etc.,etc.,etc.
