Chris Eager reviewed with the Evansville School Board on Monday night that the Primetimers have hired a consultant and inital feedback suggests that it would be best to have a broader based or "Community Center" rather than a narrow "Senior Center" and came to the School Board with a list of some questions.

So now we have it. What was once $1 million designated for a senior center is now $3 million for a community center. Chris Eager is trolling the charitable community to see if there is money available, but apparently he doesn't want to give up any control.
ReplyDeleteI think I heard him say something to the affect that this center would be used for fund raising. Is this the enticement for the other groups to hand over their money?
Is this really what the community of Evansville needs, a fund raising center?
I just wonder if the mystery donor is watching all of this. No small wonder they didn't give the money out right.
I wonder if the money is available to ANYONE who can come up with a viable business plan for a Senior center for Evansville.
How sad for our seniors. It must be like Christmas when you open your favorite present only to watch your siblings fight over it until it's destroyed.
anon---I think the audio must have been faded---Chris said that he was talking to many of the non-profits and seeing what their needs were and what their interest level would be in a larger community center concept.
ReplyDeleteThe reason for this was stated in his first sentence or so ---that going it alone as a senior center would limit fund raising and the seniors would like to align themselves with someone---who is open for discussion. Chris was just opening the discussion.
He did find out that the school will know more after August 11th when they are going to do a walk through of the middle school with a consultant and review...One of the questions you can hear him ask is what timeline the school is on.
