Watercooler: DOT says it faces budget crisis?

The DOT has said that there is a budget crisis because of the high costs of road construction projects and also because last year some 310 million dollars was taken from the gas tax revenue to help schools avoid total crisis.

Click on the post to read the article in Channel 15 news.

The Observer diagrees. The Observer thinks this is just the beginning of allowing another revenue stream, namely gas tax revenue, to provide revenue to desparate Wisconsin schools. Not only that, but the higher the gas prices go, the more Wisconsin residents will realize the necessity of making the changes necessary to become energy independent. So----

My take on this is that the DOT is just whining. What are your thoughts on this article? You make the call.

  1. On a somewhat related topic:

Madison Metro is looking for feedback on the proposed Oregon/Evansville commuter bus route. I would support this if it is econonomically viable, but with my current schedule and work location it wouldn't work for me personally. Hopefully enough people from Oregon and Evansville will complete the survey that Metro can make a good decision.

Here is a link to the survey they are asking people to fill out:
