Madison recently offered opportunity to anyone living
in the school district to participate in a
priority-setting activity. I don't know if the results
were used, or will be, but it provided some valuable
input for the district administration.
When the Evansville school board decided on a
referendum for a new high school, there were many
meetings, which many people attended. During the
planning of the school, citizen involvement allowed
for ideas, discussion, and ultimately a wonderful
school building.
Maybe we need to hold more public debate, so that the
board and administration can have a better sense of
what the community wants - and doesn't want - our
school to offer.
