In the written report for tonight's Evansville Schools board meeting, at the very beginning of her discussion of the budget plan for the upcoming 2006-7 budget for Evansville Schools, Supr. Heidi Carvin noted the need for ending the plunging fund balance of the school district. Last year, you may recall, the district used about $250,000 from the fund balance to pay the increased utiilty costs. Obviously that cannot continue or as she notes, the district becomes bankrupt. This was a point made recently by the Observer in the candidate debates in the Eager Library.
Here are her remarks:
"Planning for 2006-07 School Year: When fund balance is used for unanticipated costs, it is
important to make budget adjustments the next year. This prevents the fund balance from
eventually going to $0 and the District becoming bankrupt. The struggle to build the fund
balance back up also continues. "
It is unclear at this time what positive contribution to fund balance will be made in the coming year. Stay tuned to the Observer or attend the Evanville School Board meeting at 6:30PM in the Media Room of the High School.
