  1. I as well think the skate park will be a good thing. It's been 3 years since they first approached the city about this . Prices are going to go up, things change. There is nothing for kids in this town. This town wants, for all I know has a dog park, we don't need that either, but the group sponsor it wants the city to donate land? Is that right? Even if they do maintain it on their own, they still expect the city to do something for them. To GIVE them something. How much would that land be worth? I bet as much if not more than that skate park. I do think the group should maintain it, raise money through out the years to maintain it.

  2. I think they are far from done raising money. Its on going. I think thats very unfair to say donate the 10,000 to the pool for waivers??? The pool admission is expensive, compared to other city's with pools. Not everyone wants to swim. That very unfair to say we don't care what you want to do, what you have a interest in, go swim? You are right you are not seeing all the skate boarders. Some of these kids are very talented, have alot of skill. I would like to see them in a skate park instead of on the side walks or worse yet in the street. They are things to be worked on involving this. This should not be a issue of just because Adults have no interest it should not be done. This is about the kids and they have worked hard and so have their parents.
How much money was put into that pool this last year for the re=do?
    and attendance was down.

  3. Well Clarice you should have come to the meeting. I am impressed at this point. The equipment they are looking at looks nice. There is a question of fencing, of what if any is needed and if so what type of fencing. YOU should have come to the meeting.

  4. Damn Fugo, you took one of my points, I get kids and young adults all the time coming to my house for me to purchase something for football, boy scouts, hockey and I will help them every single time even though I do not need it. These kids only got to 80%, If they only turn in 80% of a paper they needed to write we would not reward them. When I was young we played baseball all the time in the spring we would ride our bikes about a mile and a half to play where they had a dirt infeld, homerun fence the whole works. After about two weeks we said screw the bike ride lets just play at my house and used shirs for bases and a lot line for a homerun. What I am saying I fear this will also happen the kids will get sick of the skate park and it will sit there. Another concern I have is the location of the park for me to get there it is about about 2 miles Lake Leota is a great park but with the way the city is set up for a kid to walk or skateboard is quite a hike. My other concern is this may turn into a money pit. With soccer and baseball fields there are leauges that are formed that require a registration fee, this fee will go back into the department for field rental I have never heard of a skate boarding league (maybe there are but I only had a NASH board growing up.) If these kids are looking for more ways to raise money have them contact someone with our Home Talent league they did a kick ass job getting business involved and had some creative ways (signs, advertising) to raise money. Where I play we must do that every year to pay for the field we play on.

  5. don't fall over.... but I am going to say I some what agree with slammer. I think maybe part of the deal should be they raise that other 1,000.00, kind of like good faith and maybe they have been planning to all along, it was not said at the meeting last night. These kids have stuck with this project, with the research for the best products/company to use, the back and forth with the insurance company, the raising of the money they have gotten. I think there interest is very strong. I agree also hit the business's up for the extra thousand or more i think they should all be able to contribute something. Like I said before make them responsible for up keep. Which really should be low, and maybe they are going to continuously be raising money. I will point out as far as up keep, those tennis courts are not in good shape either, and the city is in charge of up keep of those. These kids have gone to these meetings and have impressed people with the information they have gotten and their dedication. Let this thing finish out and see where we are, like I said before to soon to decide yes or no until we see what kind of answers they come back with.

  7. Oh Clarice be very careful about trusting your alderpersons, either one. They watched out for themselves. Send a family member of friend the next time, that is the only way to have your interests protected. I can not stress enough the issue with the current alderpersons. I don't think the one said a thing the entire meeting, and the other one only talked about WANTING that fence.

  8. I do believe this money is coming from the parks budget, that would be my guess. This is a guess. Anyone with a fact for sure please respond.
But like I said before I pay taxes as well, will never use it. But there does need to be more for the kids and the kids have taken the initiative to do this. They have been at it for three years. I think there are always going to be people that no matter what it is (what type of project)will have a problem with it because its for the kids and does not involve them.

  9. This money can get out of hand in a hurry. Again I ask the question isin't there ways that more money can be put into this by the people who want the park. I am not trying to be mean to the kids who collected the 4,000 to start this project but it sounds like it took them a while to get just the 4,000. This project is going to cost a little more than that. Every season our Home Talent team raises about 8,000 - 10,000 for the season. The way we raise the money is by doing many fundraisers. We have banners that provide advertising for business that contribute 500 dollars or more. We have pancake breakfeasts at the VFW. If we need to put a fence around this park why can't we make this look like Warner Park. It may not have the ambiance (I hate that word) some people would like but it can generate a lot of money to put this together. Business can use this as a write off and if approached right will be more than happy to provide. This can be a yearly fee to get their name on the fence. From personal expierence it does not cost too much to make signs, I sell the materials and machines. The kids would have to learn that if they vandalize the ads or do not continue to approach the business every year their park should be shut down. Piggly Wiggly or NIght Owl, etc. would not want a big FU written across their ad.

  10. I think those are some good ideas.
however, where do you plan ball? I don't see this project ever being big enough to warrant advertising on fences. Maybe they could take that idea and scale it down a bit. I think you had the right idea by getting the business's more involved. They want people to shop at their stores and have some loyalty to them, they need to show some loyalty to these kids.

  11. Remember though, they need to show loyality and respect to the businesses. As a business owner I all the time donate tickets, Golfballs, clothing to my good customers. They can't go to businesses and expect the money many times I get calls from people that buy shit from me but want a couple of hundred dollas in donations, I tell them to get bent

    ReplyDelete
  12. get alot of repeat business with that attitude?

  13. I get upset at the companies that by a $100.00 a year from me and when I try to get new business I get the cold shoulder. Then when their golf outing comes around they ask me for a couple hundred dollar donation etc. Again I go back to hometalent we get a lot of donations from bars and the VFW in the town I play for (I must conceal me identy). After our games and from the younger days sometimes the night before we go to these bars and if we see the owner thank them for the support, we later in the season support the VFW by serving beer or food at festivals they are having. What I am saying is if you expect businesses just to keep opening their wallet with nothing return this isin't going to happen

  14. I agree it has to go both ways.

  15. Sorry in advance for this. but I am blurring the lines between not only two different threads, but two different blogs. A discussion slammer and I were having migrated over to his blog.

Has anyone evaluated the financial effectiveness of the 8 alderpersons in Evansville? Perhaps Mrs. Steinlein lives in a ward that is getting less than 100% return on their tax dollars, while the ward that Lake Leota is raking in the cash!

No offense to Mrs. Steinlein, I say this tongue in cheek to illustrate my previous point.

  16. What bothers me is the additional money we dumped into this. the more and more I think about this It get frustrating. Give the kids this to look at. I doubt the with the 4,000 the raised in all this time. I found this by a Google search of skatepark funding, not that hard.

I have not seen them do any of these things, I have seen the Dog Park at the Pig

  17. I am sorry we DO NOT need a dog park. There of plenty of places to walk in dog in Evansville, and IF your dog is well behaved you can go and play at the park. Plenty of people do that now. How silly to put a dog park over the needs of kids,, PLEASE. How silly does that sound. I pay taxes to I would much rather invest in the youth than dogs... Priorities please!!!!!

  18. I want to clarify something the land for the dog park is worth something, either farm wise or housing or commerical use.Unless its under water, even then it worth something look at Walt Disney World in Florida. But over all i do not oppose either the dog park or skate park. Issues to be worked out in both. My taxes will be supporting both of these, neither one I will use. I should be griping more about both. However I think its odd you want the city to fork over the land for your dog park, because you will use it, so of course you think there is a need. But the skate park you don't think we need, don't want your taxes being used for it, because you won't use it.
What does concern me as well is you don't seem to be very open minded and that causes me great concern and thought as your husband is running for alderperson.
Do I really want someone for a alderperson who is no more open minded than that?

  19. Parts of Walt Disney world used to be under water, marsh land. I never said tax money went to help them. ONE has to wonder if they got Tiff money, or if its a little harder to get down there.

My question would be why is it the city's responsibility to entertain your dogs? They have never had one before now, they don't know the difference. KIDS are people, they know.

YOUR husband maybe the one running, but I strongly suspect he is very influenced by you.
From the meetings I have been at that you or your husband have spoken I have never seen him disagree with anything you said or you with him. I think voting for him is the same as voting for you. I am not saying one way or the other if will or not. Just a observation.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Thats what this is for.

I think there are issues with both the dog park, and the skate board
    park.

LIKE I stated in a earlier post these kids may stop the entire project is they can't agree to some terms.

    Time will tell for both.

WTF ??? I hope he is influenced by her, they are married, do you see Hillary influence William (on most cases, being faithful they may differ), as well Laura and W.

Check out Fugo Site for some solid statements about the park

  21. Slammer don't make me lose the faith. You made my point exactly. He is influenced by her, of course he is. It's telling of how he would vote.

  22. Slammer i have had enough of the comments for a while regarding this. Because, it will play it self out no matter what you or I or anyone says or thinks. You can only argue a point for so long.
