Our condolences go out to the relatives of Don Fitz of Sun City---he had just gotten his new electric vehicle and was so excited. An elderly person ran a stop sign and killed him this weekend.
This mix of small electric and regular autos has been a concern in the discussions I have heard in our own city council. That concern is well founded.
May he rest in peace.

Thanks for the warning, but there should be concerns about any mix: cars and bicycles, cars and motorcycles, cars and semi's, cars and skateboards, cars and runners, big cars and little cars.
ReplyDeleteThe issue should not be about the safety of NEV's, which, according to Wisconsin law, are allowed only on roads within city limits where the speed limit is 35 mph or less -- and only IF a city decides to accept them on its streets.
Rather the issue is drivers who don't see what's in front of them and cause accidents.
Running a stop-sign would probably may well have been fatal to anyone in any vehicle less potent than the elderly driver's car. Did it happen in day-time, was the deceased's vehicle street-legal, what speed limits were involved???? etc, etc, etc. Your post title says "highways", and contains insufficient information as to the exact circumstances which led to the unfortunate death.
