Gazette School Board Coverage coming on March 28th

(The Gazette will be covering the Evansville School Board race in coverage on March 28th. Look for the comments of all the candidates then. I have printed a summary of my comments here,)

Gina----

Here is a summary of my comments regarding the school race.:

On the plunkett Raysich-----

Of all the options, none has been the result of community input. The price tag of the options presented were 30-44 million in 2007 dollars---double it for the price in 2016. The community will present their own options to the school district when the "listening" begins. It has not begun yet.

Financial capacity of our families WILL be a factor and MUST be a factor in a decision. The bonds of the school district are BACK LOADED bonds that rise from a payment of 1.5 million today to 4.0 million in 2021. The school district in 2001 bet heavily that the capacity of 2100 would last. Hence....site enhancement and building conservation are key components of any plan.

On enrollment:

The past tells of the past. Our birth rate is flat in Evansville. Hence any conclusions from the numbers are inherently risky. Throwing away everything old and "buying New" is not prudent.

On budgeting:

My focus will be on sustainable programs short and long term. I will look to support classroom instruction. On capital projects I will support site enhancement and conservation. I will not support aggressive addition of programs that are not sustainable. I oppose 4K or 3K or 2K.

regards,

Dick Woulfe
