Evansville Plan Commission: Reviews "Indoor Commercial Entertainment" proposal; Good Idea--Wrong Location

Last night the Evansville Planning Commission, to a packed house, began its first meeting with its new members, in a packed agenda. All in all, they were in mid-season form.

On the proposal by Bernardo Maurice to construct a family entertainment center off Brown School Road, there was a full audience of folks who spoke against the proposal---all because of the negative impact on their homes adjacent. Poor buffer from one zone to another. Safety. Traffic Hazard. Bill Hammann did note that these same neighbors have appeared for the other development on Brown School Road such as the Ace and The Bank of Evansville, and have been generally supportive.

The staff recommendation of the city was to deny the motion to approve.

One of the representatives of the AMF group that has constructed many of these bowling, entertainment centers nationwide said clearly to the audience that " You do not have a facility like this in your community. The days of the old bar are numbered. "

In summary, the notion of the Planning commission was that it was a good concept and design, and it might work across the road in the new area to be annexed but it would not work on Brown School Road.

All in all, excellent meeting. Public comments were kept to 2 minutes. The meeting moved along well.

I hope to have audioblogger with citizens input later when the satellite coverage improves. Anyone who attended the meeting who would like to add on the comment line, please do so.
