( Ed. note. At the recent Planning Commission meeting in Evansville, during a discussion of the easement of certain land off Hwy 14 near the new strip mall being constructed, there was the following notation in the minutes:)
"Mayor Decker reported that WisDOT envisioned a four-lane highway in this area within the next 20 years. Ald. Hammann requested the City Engineer examine the right-of-way issues required for a divided four-lane highway in this section of HWY 14."
Maybe it is time for the bypass petition movement to begin.
You make the call.

Here is what I found on Wis Dots site. I tried both of those links and was not able to find any information.
ReplyDeleteUS 14 reconstruction
US 14 is an important route in and around the Madison metropolitan area. Between WIS 92 and County MM, near Oregon, existing US 14 does not have the capacity or design to carry the rising traffic volumes in the area.
To address this issue, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is undertaking two reconstruction projects on this section of US 14. In 2008, WisDOT plans to expand existing US 14 to four lanes from County MM to WIS 138. In 2014, US 14 will be reconstructed as a new two-lane, limited-access highway between WIS 138 and WIS 92. This section of roadway will be relocated onto right of way originally purchased in 1976.
WisDOT is also planning a traffic model for the US 14/WIS 138 interchange. With this model, WisDOT can determine what is causing the existing problems at the interchange and can find a solution. The model will also show how the proposed project will handle current and future traffic volumes. Improvements to the interchange are proposed for construction in 2009.
WisDOT resurfaced US 14 between WIS 92 and WIS 138 from August to September 2005 and plans to resurface US 14 between US 12/18 and County MM in 2009.
On my computer the links got cutoff.
ReplyDeleteHere they are on 2 lines.

Bill Connors would you clarify what the mayor said at the meeting?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like her understanding is that the four lane portion of 14 will be going as far as Evansville. Is there more information than what is posted on DOT's webs site? Also how would a four lane in Evansville fit with the SGP?

"I believe one of the people from WisDOT told Mayor Decker during a meeting that if development continues to occur around USH 14 on the east end of the City of Evansville, and as traffic on USH 14 passing through Evansville continues to increase, one could see a need for a four lane highway in that area in the long-term future."
ReplyDeleteWith that direct quote from Mr. Connors I find myself reflecting back on the movie Oceans 11, not the original, but the George Clooney film. I recall a line in the movie when Andy Garcia's character asks Danny Ocean if he knew who robbed his casino. Very convincingly Danny nods his head and has a serious look on his face and says " I know a guy...." That is almost what has happened with this mirage like four lane talk. It gets presented on the Observer, then informed citizens look for more details only to find out that if we're lucky it will go to 92 outside of Brooklyn. I know a guy.
