Have you ever received a gift card for yoga lessons with the condition that you have to use the lessons withing 60 or 90 days? Then you have a problem using all the lessons within the time period. That type of gift card will not be legal if the new law is passed. It has 59 sponsors and looks to be very popular. The legislators are interested in getting feedback from merchants and the public.

I think this is long overdue. When you buy a gift card for someone it is so they can get what they want when they want. They should not have to worry about it expiring. When getting gift cards for people we have always done our best to make sure they did not have expiration dates or charge a fee per month for just having the card. Its just one way some retailers have found to rip-off the consumer.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Evansville Chamber could take the "hint". And perhaps even their own members could be a bit more thankful that someone is using their gift certificate at their establishment.
ReplyDeletePeople of certain political parties often complain of 'too much regulation'. They forget that, as in this case, regualtion only comes about when one entity (i.e. some businesses) tries to take unfair advantage of another (i.e. consumers).
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? Are you telling me their gift certficates expire?
ReplyDeleteYour right they should appreciate the business. I would think any business in town would be happy to honor them as they are the same as 'cash.' But then again there are some business's here in town that act like there are doing the town a favor by being here to begin with. PLEASE
Business check are valid for 90 days most of them, it usually states right on the check how long they are good for. A personal check is good for as long as someone has possession of it. They need to absorb the cost of the bookeeping, or skip it all together and stop ripping the consumer off!!!
