Public Works---Mr. Sauer--re Water

Public Works Meeting--4-23-2007--Mr. Sauer, City engineer of Foth Van Dyke reviews two things that may improve matters--the completion of the retention pond, and the improvement of "Southgate Pond" which did not work in optimal fashion during the last water event.

In Common Council meeting of August 13, 2007, from the pictures and testimony presented, NEITHER of these two hoped for improvements worked effectively.

  1. This has been an ongoing problem for years. I contacted the city in August 2004, because I was concerned about the safety of children in regard to this pond never draining. I believe it has been empty all of about 2 weeks since I received Mr. Sauers August 2004 reply which I pasted below. This was brought up again in the April public works meeting when the neighborhood was invited to attend to discuss water issues. I believe the only time this was ever addresses was in July and it still appears to not drain after a rain event.

I looked at the stormwater pond for the new Southgate Dev yesterday when I was in the city and spoke with our construction engr involved with the construction of the developement. Based on this, I believe the current water elevation in the pond is slightly higher than existing groundwater elevations due to an accumulation of silt in the bottom of the pond. We will require the developer to confirm this one way or the other by excavating some test pits and dependent upon what we find, we will resolve this asap.

Groundwater elevations in this area are going down however very slowly. This is not unusual, it is the nature of groundwater. I appreciate your comments and will let you know our findings when we have them. If you would like to speak to me about this directly, my phone number is 242-5941. Thanks!

I seriously think it will take a lawsuit for the city to do something. The mayor's comment about not knowing about some things is bull xxxx. This as you said Mark has been going on for years.

IF she really did not know something is because she did not want to know. She does not care.

Good Luck to All Everyone who has had to contend with this water issue for YEARS now.

  3. P.S. To be fair. Fred Juergens has been helpful. The work in July 2007 took place after I contacted Fred. I don't think it is fixed though. Other ponds have drained and this one is still full.
