Mailbag: RE: The 89 Lincoln is history & is now dancing somewhere in auto heaven

(Ed. note. As the dark blue, 1989 Lincoln, A.K.A. "the heavy Lincoln" heads to the junk yard, Denis has sent a little supportive therapy my way that I thought I would share for the locals. The Lincoln has been called the "ghetto cruiser" by the neighbors and the "swing dance machine" by the daughters; for me it was just "Big Blue." At 213,000 miles. )

This, of course, is something I have personal knowledge of, and therefore,
can speak to as a member of the Woulfe family and Lincoln clan.

My first memories of my own white 1990 Lincoln Towncar with the vinyl blue
top began when Jessie was a mere four years old. As I chauffeured her to
dance lessons one evening in the Towncar she innocently looked up at me,
dangling her tiny legs in the adjacent seat (which couldn't touch the floor
at that time) and asked: "Daddy, is this the car that I will learn to drive
on?"

My last memories of Dick's dark blue Lincoln were one murky night on 35W in
Shoreview as Dick followed us in the Towncar as large semi-trucks surrounded
the "heavy Lincoln" at speeds growing faster and faster as the mass of
vehicles bolted north past 694. As we strained to see the Lincoln behind us,
just as Dick seemed enveloped in a sea of threatening Mack trucks, Dick
pushed the accelerator to the floor, kicking in all 8 cyclinders and roaring
past the semis with plumes of blue smoke trailing. The engine responded
well that night, and on many, many occasions to follow. It was a good
vehicle, one that served its family well.

Our thoughts and wishes go out to all the family at this time. Remember,
Dick: A Lincoln is never lost, it's merely immortalized in one or more
vignettes on the blog.

Best,
Denis

All---

O.K. It does appear that I have outlived the dark, blue, 1989 Lincoln that
lost its second transmission today and is headed to the junkyard.

Known fondly as the "heavy Lincoln," it was used by senior high girls to
head up to Madison to swing dance in the early years. In an era of parking
spaces designed for Honda Civics, it became harder and harder to fit such a
wonderfully huge tank in---but Amy persisted and did, thank you.

Through it all, the engine has remained strong.  Tonight there will be a
brief burial service where The Observer will attach the famouse "big blue"
flashing light on the Lincoln for a final attention getting dash to the junk
yard.

If you have memories you want to share, post please.  It is hard to get over
a loss like this, but then my younger bro as well as Denis Plaster have done
just fine after losing their Lincoln.
