Recent events that have been like bookends, the hurricane aftermath in New Orleans and the dismal response for those of most need juxtaposed with the riots of French citizens, yes children of immigrants, but citizens, has raised the question of at what point in a society where there is a growing gap between rich and poor the rioting begins. Could it happen here? In fact the question might be why it has not been more widespread here.

The article suggests that in the USA, immigrant cultures blend in more and that is the reason that widespread violence has been avoided.
