ReplyDeleteEven a participating land owner admitted as much at the last town of Union meeting. This proposed turbine project has torn apart and permanently damaged lifelong relationships in the town of Union. That was the only statement from a supporter ( read landowner ) of this proposal that I could 100% agree with. Uninformed people in the room laughed like he was exaggerating for a reaction. Many people did not laugh.
The neighborly relations in northwest portion of the town of Union are unrepairable.
I can understand both sides. Presenting a lifelong dairy farmer with easy money is beyond taking candy from a baby. These guys have worked 7 days a week for 365 days for at least 40 years. Some years breaking even was a moral victory.
It would take J.C. himself to turn that golden fiddle down, and even then he would at least open the case. I do not blame the lifelong family farmers who bury $100,000 in the ground every Spring and hope it grows to taste the forbidden fruit.
Landowners who choose to do this who are not farmers and are financially stable are just plain money grubbing greedy.
The local residents who oppose this are not jealous, they questioned this project from the start, then did massive amounts of homework and realized where their's smoke their's fire. The us versus them attitude that is promoted by the developer continues to pound that bitter wedge between cordial neighbors. I have seen it first hand, I am not embellishing, or grandstanding, even the Hatfield's and McCoy's feel bad for the town of Union.
I would like to think participating landowners would weigh the real benefit of money over destroying there neighbor's lives. I also think that Oceanfront property in Minnesota is a slam dunk.
The city of Evansville, Evansville Water and Light, and WPPI are solely to blame for this tragic situation in the town of Union. They created it, they do not have to live with it, and they have been reckless with how this project has been undertaken. It has nothing to do with Earth friendly energy, it has everything to do with making money. That's the goal in business is to make money.
Unless you have seen the cross that responsible citizens in Magnolia and Union have had to bear, don't give me a " wind is free, down with foreign oil, NIMBY, kneejerk, or Al Gore " response.
"And I encourage my men to bring their families, as well. Of course it makes for an ever so much more rewarding life for them. Family means children. Children means education. So wherever we set up camp, education is a necessity, and we're just so happy to take care of that. So let's build a wonderful school in Little Boston. These children are the future that we strive for and so they should have the very best of things. Now something else, and please don't be insulted if I speak about this - bread. Let's talk about bread. Now to my mind, its an abomination to consider that any man, woman or child in this magnificent country of ours should have to look upon a loaf of bread as a luxury. We're going to dig water wells here. Water wells means irrigation, irrigation means cultivation. We're going to raise crops here where before it just simply was impossible. You're going to have more grain than you'll know what to do with. Bread will be coming right out of your ears, ma'am. New roads. Agriculture. Employment, education. These are just a few of the things we can offer you, and I assure you ladies and gentlemen, that if we do find oil here, and I think there's a very good chance that we will, this community of yours will not only survive, it will flourish."
