Um, so those who are in the Skate Club are required to sign a 'code of conduct'? So then what is stopping those that are not in the club, and those that travel to Evansville to skate from causing problems? If something does end up happening again, the blame will be put on the club, even though people will skate there regardless if they have signed a 'code of conduct' or not.
ReplyDeletewasn't the whole point of organizing the skate club was to police their own? so, yes Erik, you are correct. If the users of the park, residents or not, break or vandalize things the skate club will be to blame. You want to do something about it? Prove to everyone that the skate club can take care of the equipment and follow the rules. That will go much further than whining every time you don't get your way.
ReplyDeleteAnony, although I have been in the past, I am no longer involved with the Evansville Skate Club, for many reasons.
ReplyDeleteSo here I am not whining, I am purely stating that the city and Skate Club have proposed something that really will have little effect on the outcome of the park and will just merely backfire on the skate park.
Then the skate club should come up with a solution they can live with and stop requiring the city to solve all of their entertainment needs. I am being asked to pay a fee for the pool and a fee for fire service. Why should I pay for a skate park I will never use when the folks who do use it don't care about it enough to keep it up?
ReplyDeleteI support there being a skate club, its a great idea and SOME of those kids have worked years, and hard to make it happen. BUT thats how the trouble started, not enough restrictions. I still can not believe they are not requiring adult supervision at all times that its open.
ReplyDeleteI would question anony comment about take care of the park, well skate club members can do that, but what about those out of towner's. They come , they make a mess and they leave? Its not fair to make the skate park club responsible for those who are not in the club. I don't think the park board has put enough time or effort into answering some of these questions, or issues.

ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm glad someone else sees this way.
I said "the FOLKS who use it". I didn't say it was used exclusively by the skate club. In fact the city should definitely NOT provide for a private club. The city provides services for everyone's use.
ReplyDeleteThe city has spent a lot in time and money on something few people use. TO suggest the city pay to staff this park is crazy talk.
It is clear that not everyone who uses this skate park respects it. It doesn't matter if they are a part of the skate club or from out of town.
The city is spending resources it could be using in other area's of town on something that has little value to most of the local tax payers.
And the more it is argued that this park is being vandalized by 'out-of-towners' the more I don't want to fund something for non-taxpayers.
