In Monday night's Planning Commission, Tim McGee of McGee Construction reviewed the tentative site plan for the new China Wok proposed at 128 East Main Street. Sophie X Huang has purchased the property of the old roller rink.
The new front of the building would have three entrances facing East Main and the China Wok would have the one to the west. There would be a canopy possibly with a light under. There had been some discussion of a 4th rental space in the rear with an entrance along the western edge of the building, but there is a very narrow bit of land available for a sidewalk, and it would have to jut around an old entrance to the basement. The 4th space is improbable at this time.
Mr. Mcgee has gone over the costs involved in renovating this space to make it a restaurant, which would include a sprinkler system. Costs may approach $200M. The buyer did not anticipate these high costs involved, and thus it is unclear whether she will proceed with the plans. There is no rush, anyway, since the road will be under construction for some time.
The planning commission with the applicants approval, tabled this site plan for further study.
