No matter what your thoughts are about GM and Janesville, without an assembly plant, all of Rock county suffers. I did not realize the ripple potential of the Janesville plant closing until it did. Just like Karen said, "We've only just begun." With the chance of reopening the plant, now is the time for Janesville to be distinct and individual from the other assembly plants. Two important words, non union.
ReplyDeleteThe UAW is a dinasour that only adds more costs and hurdles. Their reactionary new contract offerings should have happened twenty years ago, but no, they thumped their chests all the way into the grave.
What will help the Rock county economy more? To have a union and no work, or having honest paying jobs for the best qualified worker that is not burdened by a union?
I do not know enough about bankruptcy to speculate if labor contracts are voided, or how that is approached, but I believe with all of my heart, lose the union, gain the jobs.
If your future is going to be determined by a coin toss, make sure they're tossing a double headed quarter.
