    Nice argument
    -Using an unmarked squad
-Notifying a supervisor to persue out of city limits when the crash happened in the city limits.

Maybe if he only had daddy's Mustang! OOOPPPPSSSS he already crashed that a few months earlier while drinking.

From the sounds of the calls that were placed we should be glad that no one else got killed that night by a DRUNK driver. Officer Fields was doing his job that night and we all should support what he did that night.

Why is Lacey submitting the complaint?? Is this not the responsibility of the parents??

Classic! Had the kid NOT been DRUNK had the kid been wearing a seatbelt, had the kid NOT been driving 70mph, the outcome may have been different.

Lacey, Lacey, Lacey! You think you're hurting the police, but you are going to end up hurting your family so much more.

Start making better choices for yourself and family and try to move on.

    Chasinthenews
    I think how small these
infractions were by Officer Scott Fields the point is he did not follow procedures. However he did not cause the accident by not following procedures. I do think our officers need to follow the rules just like we do when we are out there driving, they are not exempt. ANY one can file a complaint againest the police dept, his parents, his sister , you , I . I think its important to realize the commission must think there are enough questions or they would not have sent it to a hearing. We need our police officers to have behavior above and beyond our own. I do not feel he should be suspended or fired or anything else along that line. He will have to live with that accident for the rest of his life to me that would be devastating enough. I think the big question here really is WHY was he the only Officer on duty. WHY>>>

Dane Wourms was a very nice young man. I think maybe some of you should stop and think about how you would feel if that had been your child. Why don't you stop and think about all the drinking that goes on in town by underage kids, we ALL know a teenager that does this regardless if we want to admit it or not. Dane is gone, he will never get that second chance and thats what needs to be driven into these kids heads, you don't get to always walk away. We all have to follow the rules are we pay the consequences. This includes Officer Fields who I have never found to be anything but respectful, the whole thing is just a terrible tragedy. Everyone needs to talk to their kids and lets hope we never have another one again. Closing with Dane was a nice kid, I worked with him at the high school. He had alot
of different things he liked to do like any teenager, things he will never get to do. All because of one big mistake. I think there are plenty of adults out there who drink and drive, what kind of example is being set for these kids? What are they seeing, and thinking is ok?? Just a very terrible tragedy. We all have to follow the laws including police personal.

So this officer should just get off with nothing happening to him, even though he broke the rules???

    No Way.

Its time they realize they have to play by the rules just like the rest of us.

  7. I remember seeing friends of Dane sitting on the hill in remembrance. I had hoped out of this tragedy someone would think about the pain and destruction abusing alcohol will bring.

A few days later I walked my young sons past the memorial left by those who loved Dane. We had planned to pray for healing. We found empty bottles of beer.

Why isn't anyone asking why underage drinking is so prevalent in our community?

Innocent until proven guilty is what our system is supposed to be based on. So far only Lacey has alleged the police officer broke the rules to the point of requiring disciplinary action. Unfortunately she is less than credible. thankfully, there seem to be two investigations taking place so we will know much more.

To Dawn, Plenty of people are asking, though few people are taking any responsibility. Hopefully by making all of this public, and our hearing what an ugly thing this is for families and how it puts all of us at risk, we will begin working together with the schools, police and city to get some kind of control over it.

From what I understand, Dane DID have a second chance. Wasn't it reported that he had already received one DUI in less than a year of having his license? Lacey seems to be listening to only the parts of the tape that suit her. Yes, Officer Fields WAS asked if all he was chasing on was the traffic violations. He was also advised that a county vehicle was westbound on 14 and they could put down stopsticks if needed. He was also asked for a description of the vehicle. That doesn't sound like they were hoping Dane reached the city limits and could go free. The transmissions also showed that they were trying during the course of the pursuit to figure out if the car Officer Fields was chasing was the car that they were looking for, the car that Rock County said they would ask Evansville to help find.

From what I could hear, it was NOT only the running a stop sign at Union St. Fields radioed in that he sped up AND that he was all over the road. That's not "just speeding and running a stop sign", that's suspicion of drunk driving. And the pursuit did NOT start at Union St. That's just where it went high speed. Dane had from Madison Street to Union Street to stop as well.
If I had been driving DRUNK, evading the police, and had just torn up my mom's house, my siblings would mourn my death while admitting that I made a STUPID series of decisions. They wouldn't look to place blame on everyone else.
I think it's also sad that some teens decided to sit on the hill and DRINK to mourn the loss of a kid who was DRUNK. I would love to think that the teens of Evansville may learn from this, unfortunately I feel that they will continue to have a "won't happen to me" attitude.
