Public Comments on Comprehensive Plan Due 6-7-2005

On Page 153 of the Evansville Comprehensive Plan under Chapter 10, Future Land Use, there is the "Land Use Vision" that describes one of the principles of the vision as a "Balancing individual property rights with community interests and goals."

The homes listed below are all listed as "unattractive" under the "composite attitude map" and then colored "red" in the following map that describes the area targeted for commercial development. This is represented as the consensus of the opinion of Evansville. What do you think of this process?

Thank you, Mr. Woulfe, for encouraging residents to comment on the recommended comprehesive plan.

  2. The overwhelming telephone imput from friends around the country has been not the state of Evansville or the opinions on the EvansvilleObserver, but "Where is Evilblogger." True, some have thought the name was "Dr. Evil" or "Dark Helmet" or "Darth Vader" but whatever, it is good to hear from you. I will let the citizens respond to your points.

In response to EB's comments I must say that although the "plan is not etched in stone it will still be adopted by the Plan Comm.
The mayor has already proclaimed in her Op Ed piece that we, the "city" would proceed with the plan as it is written!
She made it perfectly clear that she expects it to pass without issue or debate.
I am an educated person, well traveled, and have a reasonable IQ. I have read the plan book. However I still can not make sense of the plan. I do not understand what the hell is going on in the thought process of the people that want to ultimately have E. Main become commercial.
These are OUR HOMES we have put our blood sweat and believe me lots of tears. We want ot raise our families here, we want to be here. We have put down roots here.
We as a community have requested several items for beautification and safety for this area. There has not ever been one granted.

I would be surprised if no adjustments to the plan were made in response to written comments or testimony at the public hearing before it is adopted. I do not share the cynicism expressed by Mrs. S.

Also, I have provided Mr. Woulfe with an explanation of the plan's vision for E. Main St., which is quite difference from the gloomy spin most people have put on it here.
