Given that most citizens don't vote for any office, and that most voters don't have a clue what a coroner does, it's time to move to an appointed medical examiner, qualified to do forensic investigations. This area has gone from funeral directors to nurses in its quest over the years for a suitable coroner to elect--neither of which are what the office is supposed to be about.
