ReplyDeleteI think you could copy this letter and apply it to the Evansville School district. So many things I have read, and the administration have tried to push through the last few months, you would never think there was any money shortage, that they have a bottomless checkbook, (at taxpayer expense mind you) .
ReplyDeleteI think for the Evansville school district this is a time when you pull in the purse strings and ONLY spend on the essentials, which means NO more new programs. If you have to cut some where, start with some of the staff, not teachers, but aides, secretary's etc, I am never for someone losing a job, but sometimes those things have to be done for the better good. Its like they don't want to cut some administrative staff, but will cut programs for the kids????? Something is not right with that line of thought.. The H.S. is a blue ribbon school yet they have a really hard time offering advanced classes, college prep classes. Blue Ribbon school has some very smart kids, and they need to be given opportunitys. Don't cut the programs that are there for the kids, if you are not going to serve the kids, what is the point.??? That is why they are there. I for one would never vote for a ref, should it come before us anytime soon , based on the spending in recent years. They can cry lack of money for the gov. all they like, but some of it they have done to them selves. I have a hard time feeling sorry for them and no for a fact I am not alone with that thought.
Several times on this site I have read different times about cutting staff.. The school likes to think they 'need' all the staff they have. I have a suggestion, for office positions, and for aides in a standard classroom, let the juniors and seniors, who are meeting all their credit needs, fill these positions, for credit. The school has a program of sending students to business's as a type of work release from school for credit, why not have them work at the school? They might not be able to do everything, but it could go along way. It could save alot of money.
