OpEd: Uniform Standards for Wind are not green if they build the human health hazard right in

Recently the League of Conservation wrote the following about the move to let the PUC set uniform set back requirments for wind turbines:

"Support SB 185 & AB 256: Establish Uniform
Guidelines for Wind Power
Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters urges you to support SB 185 & AB 256,
which are before a joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Utilities,
Energy, and Rail and the Assembly Committee on Energy and Utilities on Tuesday.
Wind is a critical part of Wisconsin's plan to develop clean and renewable energy,
which reduces our dependence on dirtier fossil fuels and keeps more of our money
in-state. Unfortunately, the current patchwork of confusing and overly-restrictive
local regulations for permitting new wind farm developments has failed. SB 185 &
AB 256 will authorize the Public Service Commission to convene a stakeholder
committee that will establish uniform standards for regulating wind power. This
legislation is critical to meeting our renewable energy goals and reducing our global
warming pollution."

Interesting. It seems that building the negligent setback right in to uniform standards that disregard human health is green if we just call it "green."

The natural world it seems does not include humans. Be good to the the fish. Let the public be damned. That seems to be the conclusion I get from this position. And you?

Everyone has the right to their opinion. The statement from the Wisconsin League of Conservation voters is just that. They plucked some of the most overused and under proven statements concerning this issue, and with robotic sincerity, presented their case. The people who most support the PSC setbacks are the ones who do not or would not live 1000ft away from a turbine.

I'm sure a lot of people who go to visit a farm for June Dairy Days think that being a dairy farmer is the life. A bluegrass band playing, hot cakes and sausage with an ice cream stand around every corner. The bedding is fresh and clean, the newly born kittens are there to be petted and of course the horse drawn wagon ride.

People don't realize that a one day romanticized version of a dairy farm is so so far off from reality, but every year for one day, one farm per county can be Cinderella.

The people who live a PSC approved 1000 ft away from the wind turbines just North of Madison are the full time "dairy farmers". I sat for over eight hours listening to the heartfelt pleas to our lawmakers not to pass A.B. 256 and S.B.185 from the "farmers". They gave first hand testimony and actual examples of why these PSC endorsed setbacks are terribly wrong.

The water lines have frozen, the tractor needs a new clutch, and your best producers have mastitis, but all the visitors to "farm" can think about is how good those pancakes will taste.

Over and over I invite supporters of this bill to review our research/science and provide responsible contradicting data. I have yet to have any takers. They are afraid, because they know they can't refute what Union Twsp.--at the cost of $40K--was able to find. They don't care about safety, the environment or green energy; they care about their money. Period.
