OpEd: The Magic of a full discussion:

It is interesting.

The history of Evansville.

The only city in America that had two referendums on the issue of the Iraq war.

The Union-Evansville discussion of wind turbine setback set the standard WORLDWIDE on the issue of turbine set back as relates to health and safety for citizens. The Evansville Observer has the traffic statistics to prove it.

The city of Evansville has national focus for the banking crisis in 2009 and the focus of ABC news on the power of local community banking to combat the sophistcated corrupt derivitive mentality of WALL STREET.

Why is it that with the tradition of the power of a full discussion that we cannot even consider a full discussion of our planning of a local siting plan for a police station?

It's time to review the press clippings and believe.

    I'll post the info again:

Fire Dept--About 100 calls/year, about half of which are to back up EMS. In addition to tax levy, charges $500/per call out. If sent to back up ambulance on a two car traffic crash, in addition to what EMS bills out, F.D. sends a $500 bill to EACH vehicle owner. Builds $2.5 million dollar building with virtually ZERO opposition, and with such amenities as pool table, built in Weber grill, 50" HDTV, among many other perks.

EMS--Averages 1.5 calls per day. Bills out $300/incident, plus levy. Needs new building with such things as decon facilities, showers for crew, etc. Gets leftover building with no decon. or garage.

Police--Already near 2,000 calls for service this year. Generally, cannont bill out for service (except minor amounts for registration/inspection fees. Gets leftover F.D. building with LESS square footage than current p.d. w/detached garage. Will raid EMS surplus fund to build detached garage. Council quibbles over $250thousand dollar cost to modify building, which cost the City $250 thousand to buy.

    WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???

Is it just Eville or other councils in towns of similar size as screwy? This town lacks leadership.
