Gazette Corner: Tavern on Exchange Street?

Click on the post for the article in the Janesville Gazette on the proposal to put a bar in the old Water and Light building. Gina Duwe has the scoop.

Local residents have concerns. The time to voice these concerns will be tomorrow night at the Evansville Planning Commission meeting at City Hall.

Some have suggested that the parking avaible is so limited that only cycles could fit nicely. Others wonder about the jazz motif...... and wonder whether if one had all the jazz patrons in Evansville together, would it add up to enough of a market to make it successful? It is also unclear whether adult entertainment is one of the uses by "right" in the zoning classification of this area. This would be a surprise that would not be appreciated....so.....plan on attending the meeting Monday night.

Come on Mr.Woulfe I already told you if their is going to be 'adult' entertainment in our neighborhood its going to be run by the citizens of East Main Club all proceeds going to prevent any future commercial growth in our neighborhood. It would be like a nightly fun raising event.

We all know you are kidding, just in case someone takes you seriously about the ' adult' entertainment comment.

I think there is something funny about this whole story, idea. First of all what a nasty place for a bar, right across from the power station and old garage. Second this building is in horrible shape, it will take a lot of money to make it even usable, Roger I am sure wants tax payer money for it.Tiff money, which there is no way a jazz bar, which if they only use part of that building which would make it the size of a shoe box is going to survive. A non-smoking jazz bar. Which means tax payers are going to lose their shirts on this project.
