Evansville Police Report Decline in Calls for Service

8. Evansville Police Report – January 2011. January’s license plate transactions totaled 61. The following officers were appointed at the January 5, 2012 police commission meeting: New part-time hires Zach Anacker, There were 1052 calls for service in the month of January, 2012, compared to 1357 for Michael Mawhinney, Ian Reilly and Matthew McElroy. Matt will be limited to Court Office duty and special events. Officer McElroy will also be attending the policy academy February through May. Chief McElroy will be on vacation March 8 and 9. The Chief and Lieutenant are continuing to perform police officer evaluations. The part-time clerical staffing has tentatively been scheduled for a total of 1,044 hours to use. The second part of range training was completed on January 17th in Janesville. We continue to work on accreditation, continuing to review and await our three last policies. Our first accreditation visit may have to be tentatively moved back to 2013. Files are continually being scanned on a daily basis. The police website continues to be updated with significant information. The Chief attended the High School Senior graduation Service Learning Project meeting on January 25, 2012. Officer Reese spoke to students at the Middle School on January 31, 2012. Our group, represented by each Rock County agency, has narrowed down five possible vendors for updating the Rock County Records Management System. In February, we are expecting demonstrations from those five vendors. These meetings are attended by Officer Koehler and Police Secretary Jill Puckett. 9. Evansville Medical Service Report – There were 28 runs for the month of January 2012. Mary attended training for the nurses at Evansville Manor on the use of an AED, CCR training and the procedure to use when removing an object for a choking victim. EMT training is complete for the 2012-2014 refresher license renewal. All EMTs completing the refresher class and will be applying for the new license. Chief Wendt is attempting to facilitate training/evacuation for the Grange Apartments and apartments at the State Farm Building. The EMS has CCR training set up with the Fire Department in February. The goal is to have as many individuals trained to respond for CPR runs. The training includes proper use of the equipment and where to find where the equipment is located. Mary states the paperwork for the OJA grant in the amount of $50,000.00 was received. The funds will be distributed between the EMS, Police and Fire Departments. The Police will receive funds to upgrade their already purchased radios, the EMS and Fire Departments will get funds to buy new equipment. Mary has been working on SOPs (standard operating procedures) manual. The manual is being updated to reflect true operating procedures the service is utilizing today. A copy will be presented to this committee upon completion for your input along with a copy to the City Administrator. Mary is also gathering information on the Knox Boxes for residents and businesses within the City of Evansville. 10.
