London Fly Girl Corner; Flygirl comes to Evansville

Last weekend, just a little jetlagged, London Fly Girl came to Evansville for the mandatory once a year check in with blogger headquarters.

Over a strong coffee, extra whipped cream, she simply gave her report: "Well, Pres. Bush was right about one thing."

We all were silent. Wondering what it might be.

"The President said that Heathrow was a mess. He was right about that."

Flygirl indicated that Heathrow is going to a new competitive bidding for airline slots in 2008, and there have been some snags----she went over a list of the changes that was very confusing to listen to, and might require extensive diagramming---in fact, she said that one airline is having the baggage picked up not at the ramp where it docks, but across the highway at another node of the airport---just a nightmare situation for a traveler tired after a long trip---

The other little tidbit:

Her most ominous comment for the weekend was, "When you think of Civil War, don't think of Iraq.....think of England." Having lived in London in the 70's, she has been stunned by the tremendous influx of immigrants, and the fact that they have not assimilated into British society---which is no small matter given the huge stratification of that society---but noted that this matter is a much bigger deal than the media has talked about.
