Great to see this coming to Evansville. I hope they have a area for some weddings and other gatherings. Great Job
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a curious statement when the representative of the the hotel developer said they could not afford to buy land downtown that was already occupied by buildings and tear the buildings down to have a vacant parcel to develop. That is precisely why redevelopment tax increment districts like TID No. 5 exist--to use public dollars to pay the extra cost so it is not cheaper for the developer to build on bare land at the edge of the city. Did the city fail to offer TIF assistance for a downtown location, or were there no downtown locations (with existing buildings) available to purchase? That hotel would have been a great anchor for redeveloping the Adams Roofing property.

I think they are very wise for choosing the spot they did. I am tired of money being thrown at business's to stay in the down town area.
ReplyDeleteI think this is just showing the east side is the place to build for comercial reasons.
What happens when the by pass gets put in years from now?? And that is the plan of the D.O.T... people will be going around evansville instead of through it so why,,, continue to throw tif money at business's???
Because when this by pass goes in it will be a very big hard ship to many business's and why lose any more tif money than we have to.
This hotel will be a excellent addition to this town.
I as well hope they have banquet facility's ,, as the only thing this town has is dark, old, smoky bars.. YUCK..
