I am curious why we have hearing examiner and what is their role? Will things be run differently than for example the fitters mess? If someone can tell me why the change, I really don't care one way or another, just wonder why the change.

Bill Connors would you clarify this if you happen to know. My guess is that because the ATF handled the Fitters case it would become a state or federal issue.
In this case the allegations are citizen based so the procedure is disciplinary in its action and not criminal.

NO I was talking about fitters and the allegations from the young lady, I thought that was handled by police commission alone, not someone hired from the outside.

I think your right, wasn't it handled by John Decker the mayors husband.

I can not imagine why the Chief was not at the hearing. It doesn't seem right that he was absent.

The fitters deal was handled by John Decker, who was president of the Commission at the time. John Decker is a retired lawyer and had experience as a hearing examiner, so he did the work himself.

By the sounds of it, the hearing was just announcing the rules the parties were to go by. The chief doesn't have much to do with that. Do the Wourms really need to be looking at him more than they have to given their position? I think not. Perhaps he stayed away out of respect for their grief.

I think the chief should be there, since these proceedings directly effect his staff and the pd policies and procedures.

    FYI:
The Chief WAS at the meeting and he spoke when called upon. The Chief was excused by the Commission President when they got to the portion of the hearing where all before them was scheduling matters.
