Evansville Common Council Responds to Sign concern; Non-conforming use in Residential R1 to be addressed in new ordinance on signs

The Evansville Common Countil on Tuesdy night affirmed the recommendation of the Planning Commission and rejected the Resolution to rezone to B1 the R1 zoned dentist office in a residential home at 39 West Church. Both the dentist and the nearby homowners were in agreement on the issue. The city had been the rare applicant in this matter in the hopes of doing some Smart Growth clean up as to zoning, but the effort essentially backfired.

In the end, the City Attorney indicated that possibly this could be addressed in a separate ordinance and two alderman offered to sponsor it. Both the dentist and the neighbors felt this would be an acceptable solution.
