OpEd: The Observer celebrates the end of the 4 Period Day

Recently in a local paper, our Evansville School Superintendent, Mr. Roth indicated that one of the ways of bring down the deficit for the next year would be to leave the four period day, or the block schedule. This is wonderful news. The 4 Period day was introduced in Evansville Schools as a way to increase compensation. It never had any shred of evidence of being able to improve student achievement. It actually reduced the hours of instruction---and those reduced hours of instruction lead over time to reduced performance...Thus it is now a matter of MATH, not Politics....the 4 period day must end...That is how I see it..and you?
