This is an example of the excellent and thoughtful testimony given at the Capitol on Tuesday at the hearing on wind turbine siting reform.
The Town of Union should be proud to know that the large wind ordinance created by the study committee is considered to be by far the best in the state. Why? Because it considers the health and safety of residents to be more important than making things easier for wind developers who will continue to get away with siting wind turbines too close to homes as long as the law allows them to.
Right now, the State is considering a bill which would overturn ordinances like the Town of Union's and give the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin the power to say where turbines can be located in our community. The PSC believes 1000 feet from the home of a non-participating resident is a good setback.
The testimony at the hearing on this bill given by those now living with these setbacks in the wind farms in Dodge and Fond du Lac county made it very clear that there was trouble with noise and shadow-flicker. People who have been trying to sell their wind farm homes testified they can find no buyers. They can't even find realtors willing to list their homes.
Contact Senator Erpenbach and ask him not to support turbine siting reform. Contact Representative Brett Davis and ask him to do the same. The future of the Town of Union hangs in the balance here. Our legislators need to hear from us.
