Some of the initial studies about the potential for offshore windmills on the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan are not that encouraging. The lake has some pretty steep shorelines on the west side and by the time you get offshore a few miles, the lake is pretty deep and the cost gets pretty high. The slope on the Michigan side is not as great.
Lake Erie, on the other hand, is pretty shallow in the western zone and it's not surprising that Ohio has taken a lead because the costs are relatively lower there.
