Public Safety Minutes

Regular Meeting

Chairman Roberts called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Present were Alderpersons Roberts, Sornson and Wessels. Also present were Mary Beaver, EMS Coordinator, Scott McElroy, Police Chief, Mayor Sandra Decker and Dan Wietecha, City Administrator.

Minutes

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels to approve the May 2nd minutes as written. Motion Carried.

Citizen appearances other than agenda items

None

Police Report

Scott McElroy, Police Chief, stated that the 07-08 co-op student would start on June 11th. Mr. McElroy reported Officer Jones will be back to work the week of June 26th. There were 101 Vehicle Registrations in May, 64 renewals and 37 titles. From March 2007 to May 2007, the Police Department has had 192 transactions. The Police Commission has approved four new part-time officers; they will be riding around with officers soon.

Emergency Medical Service Report

Mary Beaver, EMS Coordinator, reported that they had 30 runs in May.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels to recommend to Common Council the adjustment of $2,027.94. Motion Carried.

Public Safety Committee recommended checking on garnishment of wages, Mary will check with LifeQuest.

Old Business - None

New Business

Motion by Wessels, seconded by Sornson to approve a Temporary Class “B” License to the Evansville Community Partnership for the July 4th Celebration at Lake Leota Park. Motion Carried.

Discussion regarding parking on Railroad St during construction, Public Safety Committee recommended to put up temporary signs until construction is done. Chief McElroy will contact Dave Wartenweiler, Public Works Director.

Motion by Wessels, seconded by Sornson to discuss a Class “B” Beer/ Class “B” Liquor License for Stephen D VerKuilen and Julie A Meredith. Alderperson Sornson led the discussion stating the park was to close to a neighborhood with lots of little children. He would like to see the motion denied. Stephen VerKuilen talked about the Plan Commission being canceled, that he would like the Committee to tentatively pass the license. Mr. VerKuilen described his vision for his establishment.

Roberts motioned to amend the motion contingent upon Plan Commission’s approval.

Motion by Roberts, seconded by Wessels to change the address to 193-195 S Union St. Motion Carried 2-1.

Roll Call on main motion taken. Motion Carried 2-1.

Motion by Wessels, seconded by Sornson to approve the Class “B” Beer/ “Class B” Liquor License for Gregory P. Ardisson d/b/a The Night Owl. Motion carried.

Motion by Wessels, seconded by Sornson to approve the Class “B” Beer/ “Class B” Liquor License for Linda A. Church d/b/a Pete’s Inn Inc. Motion carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Roberts to approve the Class “B” Beer/ “Class B” Liquor License for Craig A. Walmer d/b/a Outlaw Inc. contingent upon passing the Rock County Health Inspection and city department re-inspections within 30 days. Discussion took place regarding Evansville Bowl liquor license application approval in regard to the violations on the inspection reports. Motion carried.

Motion by Wessels, seconded by Sornson to approve the Class “B” Beer/ “Class B” Liquor License for Francesco Romano d/b/a Romano’s Pizza contingent upon obtaining and posting dance and game machine license within 30 days. Motion carried.

Motion by Wessels, seconded by Sornson to approve the Class “B” Beer/ Class “B” Liquor License for Gordon R. Ringhand d/b/a Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #6905. Motion Carried.

Motion by Wessels, seconded by Sornson to approve the Class “A” Beer/ “Class A” Liquor License for James D. Kopecky d/b/a Kopecky’s Worldwide Foods, Inc. Motion Carried.

Motion by Wessels, seconded by Sornson to approve the Class “A” Beer/ “Class A” Liquor License for Bradley N. and Sheryl A. Goodspeed d/b/a Goodspeed Gas “N Go Inc. Motion Carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels to approve the Class “A” Beer/ “Class A” Liquor License for Steven Merry d/b/a Grove Quik Mart. Motion Carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels to approve a Class “B” Beer License for Alejandro F. Tort d/b/a La Trattoria LLC contingent upon passing a police inspection within 30 days. Motion Carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels to approve a “Class C” Wine License for Alejandro F. Tort d/b/a La Trattoria LLC contingent upon passing a police inspection within 30 days. Motion Carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels to approve a “Class C” Wine License for Susan B. Finque d/b/a Real Coffee LLC. Motion Carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels to approve a Class “A” Beer License for Parminder K. Sekhon d/b/a Madison Street Express Inc. contingent upon the alcohol being covered and locked during no sale hours within 30 days. Motion Carried.

Operator’s Licenses

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels, to approve all Operators’ Licenses associated with the Liquor Licenses as applied for. Motion Carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels, to approve an Operator’s License for Nicole M Guth. Motion Carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels, to approve an Operator’s License for Mary Catherine Rooney. Motion Carried.

Motion by Sornson, seconded by Wessels, to approve an Operator’s License for Rebbeca DeMarb Schuch. Motion Carried.
