(Ed. note: The Public Benefits Committee has been distributing energy assistance money and has come upon criticism that this money has not been directed to the type of applicants that were intended for this program. The program was intended for low income applicants needing weatherization not multi-million dollar owners of property. It is unclear whether the agenda listed below will be decided by a neutral administrative body such as WPPI and/or what the role of the Benefits committee will be. It is unclear whether the previous benefits committee was properly organized as an arm of city government and whether any monies previously distributed will be returned if improperly disbursed. Review of Public Benefits financial information.

Review of Ordinance 2007-20, Reorganization of Public Benefits Committee.

Election of Committee Chair and Secretary.

Discussion and possible motion to provide energy conservation assistance for pond aeration windmills (Berg).

WPPI update (Mike Hodges and Alicia VandenOever).

Set next meeting date.
Adjourn.

    To give MONEY to the rich is just them abusing the system. THIS is not what they programs were intended for and its a disgrace that the money was ever given to them.

    I thought this group was a part of the ECP. The city already has a water and light committee.

  3. The public benefits money is, by law I believe, divided into several pots. Not all of the public benefits money is earmarked from weatherization or energy assistance for low-income families. Some of it is earmarked for businesses or other large users of power. For example, the Evansville Community School District received some of the public benefits money for the new high school.

    Observer, I recommend that you do a little research on this issue and report back. Eric Jepperson should be able to explain the purposes of the various pots of money to you.

  5. Yes, some public benefits money was used for the solar water heating system at the city pool. Some of the money for that system came from the Wahlin Foundation (as in Don Wahlin, the owner of Stoughton Trailers and co-owner of the land east of the Stoughton Trailers plant in Evansville).

    So Bill, was this a city committee then when you were here? If it already exists, why does it need to become a city committee now? Sounds like it ought to be a WPPI committee.
