Hometown Video and Dollarland to Close in May
The Observer has learned that Hometown Video and Dollarland stores in downtown Evansville are planning to close in May 2007. Impact of the downtown reconstruction has been cited.
I highly doubt construction is the main factor of them closing. The video store has been steadily screaming that it is closing its doors soon. We truly need a big name movie/game rental place in Evansville. I hope someone takes this opportunity and creates a Family Video, as I have always enjoyed their extremely low prices.
We'll miss the mylar balloons at Dollarland, such a great deal compared to party stores in Janesville/Madison. I just hope eventually we'll have stores and services allowing us to shop in Evansville.
If it had not been for the road construction the video store and dollar land would not being closing when they are. The construction had dealt them a terrible blow with little to no help from the city.
Hometown Video never hid from their fears of having a biz in this day and age. We are on the fast track of the ever changing technology for home entertainment. If it weren't for the loyal customers, Hometown might have closed its doors long ago. This family run business was not quite ready to close its doors. Construction is the reason.
Family Video is a fantastic biz. They would have to make some changes in order to survive a smaller town.. only my opinion.
I will miss Hometown and its owner, Barb, who always had a friendly word and provided us with a wide range of video fare. It is also my hope that the Mayor and council will THANK HER for providing Evansville with 17 years of service.
Thank you Barb ... you will be missed a great deal.

ReplyDeleteAnon here is a question for you , Why on earth would they lie about the reason they are closing? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

ReplyDeleteThe owners of the video and dollar shops can commiserate together on the deck of the coffee house.
