Monticello; Pellet Mfg. destroyed by fire--10 Fire Dept called including Evansville

I would be interested in what happened in this fire. Any tech types our there that have a hunch? I assume there is a clue that adheres the sawdust to the pellets, but something must have gone very wrong. Click on the post for the full story in the Monroe Times. Stay tuned.

  1. The sawdust that they were binding into the pellets is very fine product. It can be as explosive as coal dust.

A similar explosion and fire killed two at American Wood Fibers in Schofeld, which is the plant that this Monticello mill used as a supplier.

It's a shame. The guy who bought the mill from Walnut Grove was the ex-mill manager for them. He had to sign a 5 year no-compete contract which is what got him into the wood pellet business. his son was managing he operation and many of the old workers had been hired back. Let's hope he was well insured.
