ALERT: Heating: Roofing: etc. : The Engineers Have Been Called

On Monday night, February 12, 2007, the Evansville School Board will hold its regular meeting beginning at 5:30PM. On the agenda will be a presentation of the Plunkett Raysich study of the school facilities. A shortened version is linked to in the post below.

This meeting presentation comes at a critical time in Evansville School history as the school district faces enrollment capacity in 2011, and is seeking to plan for the future. Specifically, despite the finding in 2001 that the TRIS, or the old High School was structurally sound and a candidate for remodeling, there are questions that arise out of the Plunkett study, specifically on page 4, whether the roof leaks reflect a pattern of lack of necessary maintenance and a failure to include necessary updates in the school referendum of 2001. There is the further implication in the report that in fact, the TRIS may need to be simply razed for a new school.

The role of The Evansville Observer at this meeting is clear---I will be filming the meeting so the community can observe. I will be silent.

I am requesting contractors, engineers, and knowledgeble folks to be present to ask the relevant questions. The last time there was a presentation, namely on the new high school, the contractor community in Evansville came out and made a contribution that resulted in the energy efficient geothermal features of the high school. SO----you are being called.

I will print the formal agenda for this meeting as soon as it is released. Probably on Friday. Stay tuned.

You are being called.

I am sorry I do not believe for one minute that school is in that bad of shape. I am in it everyday.
Unbelievable, my house needs a new roof and furnace and I would like more room. Am I going to tear it down and start all over . NO. Because I don't have tax money to pay for new one. I think I speak for ALOT of the community when I say I would never vote for a ref.to pass. No way. Its very distrubing that they also seem to be saying they missed this back in 2001, one would wonder why.

  2. Take a look at the rest of what the report says. Remember, the same firm/company that did the study also will do the plans and build a new school or schools for us if you need them to. Sound funny??????????
