Why did the city hire another public works employee? Why does the city not lay off some of the public works employee's in the winter time? What is there for them to do in the winter except when it snows? The parks and cemetery don't need mowing and when it does in the summer they hire part-time people to help. They don't do road work anymore except to put some of that tar stuff in holes and don't compact it but instead we do when we drive over it with our cars.... One of the employee's sits at the Waste Water Treatment plant all day. Most of the time they are just riding around in the trucks that by the way, seem to be new because they are not used much for work. About the only thing I see them do is pick up leaves in the fall, but only after they clogged the storm sewers, blow out the sewers, mow lawns when the grass gets so long that they have to on some of the city property and plow in winter after everyone already is leaving to go to work. They don't seem to get near the schools either before school starts to make it safe for the buses or kids. They leave the snow in the middle of the streets downtown so you can't turn from East Main onto Maple street if you heading West because of the mound of snow. there are other streets like that too. The Water & Light Dept. and Public Works seem to hire out so much work that can be done by themselfs. Last weekend when a water main broke on West Main and 2nd st. who do you see. Schlitler Construction Co. from Brodhead. They are called to come and fix it along with 3 men from the Water and LIght Dept to watch them dig the hole. The city does own a back hoe and someone that can run it. They use one in the cemetery to dig graves. Water and Light has more equipment and NEW trucks than Wisconsin Power and light it seems. They are another one that hires out a lot of work. How about looking into what Public Works has to do and maybe you won't have to hire more employee's. The tax payers of Evansville would like to see some savings and proper use of employee's. By the way, the Public Works Director does'nt live in Evansville, he is in Monroe.......
